Lady getting her picture taken

Is the flash on? Can you tilt the camera? Can I see it? Will you take another?

Sound familiar? Picture taking is on the rise; tagging and untagging, likes and #ignores, and of course our beloved selfies are being uploaded every minute. Looking as gorgeous as you do, that snapshot just does not do you justice.

Don’t be afraid of letting the camera capture the picture perfect you. Being photogenic isn’t a special super-power that only a few are born with (except for supermodels). Looking glamorous for the camera takes a few tricks, positions and creative poses anyone can master with a little practice, patience and a lot of re-dos.

6 Tips to Capture the Most Beautiful You

1. A classic and a go-to for me is the hand on hip. If you are at the end of a line in the photo, putting your hand on your hip will highlight the inward curve of your waist and slim your arm. Tilt your chin downward and hold yourself with confidence.

2. For a group pose (when you are not at the end), turn your elbows in at your sides and either face your palms out or hold the person next to you’s lower back. This instantly makes you look slender. Remember to tilt your head on an angle rather than looking straight on at the camera.

3. To look thinner, turn a bit sideways and place one foot in front of the other, making sure to point your toe towards the camera and placing most of your weight on your back foot. Again, do not look at the camera head-on, as it will make you appear larger. Try raising one shoulder up and forward to add length to your body.

4. Hide a double chin by pulling your head forward slightly and placing your tongue to the roof of your mouth right behind your teeth. Smile! This will also help you appear more relaxed and natural.

5. Right before the picture is taken, close your eyes or look away, then open them or look back just before the shot is snapped. This eliminates red or closed eyes. You may want to practice this one in the privacy of your own home.

6. It’s all about the angle. If you place the camera a little higher and tilt it downwards it will elongate you, but if you take the photo from a lower upwards angle, it will make you look heavier.

Don’t forget the best pictures are always the ones taken when you aren’t expecting them. Take that as a cue to live in the moment, but always look good while you are doing it. You’ll always be ready for that perfect shot.

And if you still can’t get the perfect portrayal, here are a few editing apps that will have your photo upload worthy in no time: FaceTune, Perfect365 and Photo Editor by Aviary.
